September 5, 2013
Dear Fellow CPRS Hamilton Members:
Hope you’ve had a memorable summer with time to recharge your batteries.
Many of the CPRS Hamilton’s committee chairs have been planning over the summer to be ready to roll out programs for the fall. If you’d enjoy serving on one of the Board’s many committees, we’d love to hear from you. Board
Committees include: Events, Pinnacles, Mentorship, Communication, Professional Development and Membership.
7th Annual Mentoring Program: Our new Mentorship Chairs have a message below asking members (below) to consider getting involved – if you’re an intermediate or junior practitioner and you’ve always wanted a mentor, be sure to visit our website on September 23rd to download and complete the mentee application and return it by September 30th. If you’re an intermediate or senior practitioner, please consider becoming a mentor. Here are a few of the comments captured from mentors at the wrap-up event:
“What did you like most from the mentorship program?
- Great program to help young PR professionals
- Had a great mentee, helping other mentees with spontaneous advice, connecting with senior practitioners
- Really rewarding – a great opportunity to share knowledge and interact with a young PR professional
- Chances to learn from my mentee and other mentor and mentees.
- Opportunities for fellowship and giving back.
- Meeting the mentees
- One-on-one conversations
- Group learning events e.g. Klout score
Feel free to drop me a line anytime!

New Mentorship Year
CPRS Hamilton will again be offering its very popular Mentorship Program, which is open to members of CPRS Hamilton. Our program is designed to nurture and grow the public relations profession by matching senior practitioners with intermediate to juniorpractitioners and PR/communications students. The committee is currently hard at work.
Applicants compete for 10 mentee spots and priority is given to full members. Over the next few weeks, we’ll also be visiting PR classes to talk with the students about mentorship and CPRS.
Mentors Needed: We have some mentors signed up for this year and we’re looking for a few more mentors. The ideal mentor is a senior practitioner who has received their APR. In this role, mentors enter into two-way relationships with mentees, providing their expertise and PR knowledge in return for the opportunity to learn from energetic, tech-savvy juniors and students.
Here are some key dates:
September 23rd – Program opens – please visit the website then for mentee application form
September 30th – Program closes – spaces limited
Week of October 8th – Committee contacts successful applicants
Wednesday October 16th – 1st event, which includes a ‘Speed mentoring’ session, matching and goal-setting. Note: location to be confirmed. All mentorship events start at 6:30 p.m.
For more information, please contact the 2013-14 CPRS Hamilton Mentorship Co-Chairs at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone: Christina Jean Pierre – 905-929-9299; Rosita Carobelli-Zukowski – 905-920-3552
